ICYMI: Here’s A #SisolakFactCheck On Sisolak’s New Ad
July 5, 2022
In case you missed it, after almost getting booed out of Boulder City yesterday, Steve Sisolak is up with a new TV ad today. If Shady Steve’s Northshore scandal has taught us anything, it’s that he can’t be trusted to tell the truth…so here’s a #SisolakFactCheck for his new ad.
“It’s the tale of two economies. Look down the strip or Virginia Street.”
Sisolak is actually right on this one – there is a tale of two economies in our country. There are states whose governors managed their economies well throughout COVID…and those that didn’t. Nevada falls into the latter category.
The National Bureau of Economic Research gave Nevada a “D” rating for its economic response to COVID, while Politico ranked Nevada as having the second-worst pandemic response in the entire country.
In. The. Entire. Country.
“Hotels are full, unemployment’s low and our economy is rated best in America.”
Not only is Sisolak’s claim that Nevada’s economy is “rated best” in America not accurate, but a recent poll showed that the standard of living for 40% of Nevadans is worse than it was four years ago…why is Steve Sisolak bragging about that? Why is Steve Sisolak bragging about any of this?
And as of May 2022, Nevada still has the THIRD-HIGHEST unemployment rate in the country. Nevada also led the nation in 2021 for the highest annual unemployment rate.
“But there’s another story too. Housing prices, gas, groceries, all taking a toll.”
“Taking a toll” is the underestimate of the year – Nevadans are suffering from Democrats’ failed policies.
With some of the highest gas prices in the country, Nevada’s gas prices are much higher than the national average. On top of sky-high gas prices, Bidenflation is devastating Nevada families, with more and more families relying on local food banks.
And Nevada workers report that they’re still feeling the effects of employers’ pandemic cuts, which are now made worse by rising inflation and low wages.
“I get it.”
Does Sisolak really get it? Some would say otherwise…
“That’s why we’re expanding childcare,”
Huh? Sisolak's care for children’s well-being must be pretty recent.
There has been a 46% increase in harassment, threats, and sexual assaults within Clark County School District. When teachers asked Sisolak to do something – anything – about the violence, Steve Sisolak didn’t even bother to respond.
“Investing $500 million in housing,”
Under Steve Sisolak, housing prices and mortgage rates have increased, while the supply of existing homes in Nevada has hit a record low.
And can you really say you’re “investing” when you’re just spending federal tax dollars?
“Tuition-free community college,”
Steve Sisolak set aside $5 million of ARPA funds to merely “explore” how to make community college free for more people by 2025.
Instead of giving this money directly to students, Sisolak spent it on growing bureaucracy.
“…and no new taxes.”
Yeah, Nevadans have heard that one before, and they don’t believe it for a second.
In 2019, Steve Sisolak signed bills that extended tax and fee hikes, including a DMV fee, that were set to expire. Both taxes were unconstitutional and had to be overturned by a judge.
And in 2021, Steve Sisolak successfully signed a mining tax increase. Sisolak even said that he was “so proud” of it.
“Because Nevada should be a place you can afford to call home.”
Nevadans should be able to afford to call Nevada home…but unlike Steve Sisolak, every Nevadan can’t sue Clark County to pocket $23.5 million from taxpayers.
Bottom Line: “Steve Sisolak is trying to gaslight Nevadans and confuse them about his economic record. Despite his best efforts, Nevadans won’t forget how Sisolak raised taxes, shut down the economy, closed small businesses, and contributed to Bideninflation.” -Elizabeth Ray, Lombardo for Governor Spokesperson
