Lombardo Campaign Statement on Sisolak’s 2022 State of the State (Campaign) Update
July 19, 2022
Today, in his State of the State update, Steve Sisolak continued to use his official office to campaign for reelection. Despite Nevadans reporting that they’re worse off than they were four years ago, Steve Sisolak likes to remind Nevadans about all of his “accomplishments” and how proud and grateful they should be to have him as governor.
Earlier this year, Steve Sisolak said he was “tremendously proud” of his record. But now, Steve Sisolak is no longer just proud, he now says he’s “keeping his promises.” In fact, he’s even saying that he’s had a “Promises Made, Promises Kept” agenda.
So here’s a question:
Is Sisolak proud that he's made our schools so dangerous that 1,700 teachers would resign? Is Sisolak proud that he put 95,000 small businesses out of business? Is Sisolak proud that he took care of his donors, even though it meant costing Nevadans their lives? Is Sisolak proud that he lets dangerous criminals off with a citation rather than jail time? Is Sisolak proud that he's run our schools into the ground? Is Sisolak proud that he and his allies spent millions of dollars boosting Joey Gilbert?
Nevadans can’t afford for Sisolak to keep any more of his “promises,” because despite Sisolak’s boasting and federal-funded spending spree, Nevadans are far worse off than they were since he took office.
Since Steve Sisolak has been in office, more than 95,000 Nevada small businesses have shuttered their doors for good, according to Lt. Gov. Lisa Cano Burkhead.
A year ago, the average cost of gas in Nevada was $3.88, but today Nevada has the fifth-highest gas prices in the nation, with the average sitting at $5.24 a gallon.
According to the United States Congressional Joint Economic Committee, prices have increased up to 14.9% from January 2021 to June 2022 in Nevada, costing the average Nevada household $805 last month alone.
Statewide, the cost of rent has increased by 20% in the last two years. Just since last year, the cost of rent for studio apartments, 2-bedroom apartments, and 3-bedroom apartments in Las Vegas have all increased by over 15%.
More and more Nevada families are relying on local food banks for groceries.
After unconstitutionally raising taxes twice, Steve Sisolak successfully raised taxes in 2021 and said he was “so proud” of it.
There has been a 46% increase in harassment, threats, and sexual assaults within Clark County School District.
School violence is so bad that Clark County School District lost around 1,700 teachers this school year, a 78% increase in separations compared to an average school year.
Under Steve Sisolak, there’s been an increase in fentanyl deaths, but Steve Sisolak still signed a bill that gave traffickers reduced sentences.
Nevada Highway Patrol is the weakest it’s ever been under Steve Sisolak, and there aren't enough prison staff to keep prisons functioning. Nevadans are less safe.
Bottom Line: “Steve Sisolak choosing to brag about his accomplishments over the past six months only shows how out of touch he really is. Across the state, Nevadans are struggling to pay rent, buy groceries, and get school supplies, all while Steve Sisolak has the audacity to brag about all that he and Joe Biden have done in Nevada. No matter what Steve Sisolak tries to say, Nevadans know they’re paying the price of Steve Sisolak and Joe Biden’s failed leadership.” -Sheriff Joe Lombardo
